Meta Pushes Phoenix MR Glasses Launch to 2027

Meta has pushed back the launch of its next-generation mixed-reality glasses, internally known as Phoenix, to 2027. The device was originally expected in the second half of 2026, but the company has opted for a longer development timeline to ensure a more polished product.

According to an internal memo cited by Business Insider, Meta leaders said the extended schedule gives teams “more breathing room” to refine the hardware. The Phoenix goggles, once code-named Puffin, are designed to be lightweight at around 100 grams but will reportedly feature lower-resolution displays and less computing power compared with premium headsets such as Apple’s Vision Pro.

The device is part of Meta’s broader mixed-reality strategy, which blends virtual and augmented experiences and allows digital elements to interact with the physical world. Phoenix sits within Reality Labs, the division behind the Quest headset line and the Ray-Ban smart glasses.

The delay comes at a time when Meta is preparing significant cost reductions. Bloomberg recently reported that the company plans to trim spending on its metaverse initiatives by up to 30 percent, a move that may influence product timelines across the Reality Labs portfolio.

For now, the updated 2027 target signals Meta’s intention to prioritize refinement and stability over speed as it builds its next major hardware release.
