Met Gala 2026 to Celebrate ‘Costume Art’ as The Met Unveils New Fashion Galleries

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has revealed the theme for the 2026 Met Gala, and it is one of the most artistic and meaningful themes so far. The theme, called “Costume Art,” connects directly to the grand opening of the museum’s newly expanded Costume Institute galleries, which cover 12,000 square feet. This marks an important moment for both fashion and art as The Met prepares to give clothing a more central and permanent place inside the museum.

The new gallery suite, located near the Great Hall, will officially open on May 10, 2026. This is also when the Costume Institute will debut its new exhibition, also titled Costume Art.
