Malaysia has officially declared 2026 as the “Year of Execution,” directing its efforts towards actualizing the policies encompassed in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir made this announcement during his 2026 Minister’s Address, symbolizing a significant change from merely strategizing to real-world execution.
Akmal noted that the inaugural year of the 13MP implementation is crucial for translating governmental policies into tangible programs and development projects that offer direct advantages to citizens. He underscored that success will now be evaluated based on measurable outcomes rather than mere intentions.
Every policy under the 13MP is required to effectively reach its target demographics and respond to genuine local needs, he emphasized. Execution quality will become a central performance metric across various levels of the ministry, including senior leaders.
Akmal stated that execution will be a unified KPI for the secretary-general, deputy secretaries-general, directors, heads of departments, agencies, and political figures. He also asserted accountability would encompass himself and the deputy minister, reflecting a strong commitment to results-oriented governance.
He expressed that the Madani government is resolute in making the 13th Malaysia Plan a practical framework instead of a theoretical guideline, focusing on effecting strategies into actions that will enhance daily living for Malaysians.
The implementation phase of the 13MP is especially crucial for shaping the nation's economic trajectory as Malaysia faces an increasingly complex global economic climate. Akmal indicated that effective execution is essential for consolidating Malaysia’s standing and moving beyond the middle-income trap.
To promote transparency and enhanced scrutiny, the government plans to utilize a digital framework through the MyRMK system for monitoring 13MP execution. This platform is designed to track key performance indicators and identify accountable implementing agencies to ensure better coordination and responsibility.
Additionally, the economy minister emphasized prioritizing smaller but impactful projects that can be finalized swiftly to yield immediate benefits. He cited improvements in damaged infrastructure, rural roads, government housing, schools, and clinics as clear indicators of governmental responsiveness in tackling real issues.
By swiftly addressing these matters, Akmal stated that public confidence in governmental actions could be bolstered, allowing citizens to witness tangible improvements instead of engaging in prolonged discussions about larger initiatives.
As the government prepares for 2026 as the Year of Execution, it seeks to ensure that 13MP policies evolve into significant developmental outcomes, thereby strengthening public faith and enhancing Malaysia’s economic stability.
