On October 3, 2024, Musk joined MAGA supporters in making serious allegations against the Democratic Party, stating, “The Dems are doing deliberate voter importation to swing states & fast-tracking them to citizenship.” He characterized this alleged strategy as a “voter importation scam” that is “diabolically smart.” Musk further asserted that this supposed initiative aims to recruit enough migrants to “flip all swing states” and establish “permanent one-party rule” across the nation, labeling it the “true threat to democracy, not Trump.”

Musk's strong assertions were prompted by a study referenced by MarketWatch in August 2024, which highlighted that immigration remains a contentious topic in U.S. political discourse. Immigration court data indicated that key swing states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, have experienced a significant increase in unauthorized migrants since 2021.

What Numbers Are Musk and MAGA Referring To?

A July report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) emphasized the implications of rising immigration levels on the revenues and spending patterns of state and local governments. The report noted, “The research literature has generally found that increases in immigration raise state and local governments’ spending—particularly on education, health care, and housing—more than their revenues.”

In expressing his support for Trump, Musk stated, “That’s why I keep saying that, unless Trump wins and reverses this scam, 2024 is the last election in America.” The cited study revealed staggering growth rates in unauthorized immigrant populations across seven swing states since 2021:

Georgia: 401% increase

North Carolina: 446% increase

Pennsylvania: 241% increase

Arizona: 734% increase

Nevada: 562% increase

Michigan: 775% increase

Wisconsin: 467% increase
