French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed excitement over the possibility of Celine Dion performing at the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, calling it "fantastic news." Amid growing speculation about Dion's participation, Macron hinted at her presence but did not confirm any details. Dion, recently spotted in Paris, is rumored to be among several high-profile performers, including Lady Gaga.

Speaking to French broadcaster France 2, Macron remarked, "Apparently she has arrived in Paris, it's great!" He expressed his eagerness for Dion's appearance, adding, "I would be immensely happy if she could be at this opening ceremony, like all our compatriots." Macron also teased that there would be surprises at the event, noting that he could not reveal specifics about the ceremony director Thomas Jolly's plans.

Dion’s potential performance would mark a notable comeback following her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome in December 2022, a condition causing severe muscle spasms that led her to cancel several shows. If she performs, it will be her second appearance at an Olympic opening ceremony, her first being in Atlanta in 1996.

Fans were thrilled to see Dion in Paris, with 24-year-old Oceane Moulin commenting, "For me, she’s the best singer and a diva, and it’s incredible to be able to see her here in France, especially after everything that’s happened." Moulin expressed that Dion’s presence and performance would be "incredible."

Sports and Olympics Minister Amélie Oudéa previously mentioned Dion’s participation was a possibility, adding to the excitement. Alongside Dion, Lady Gaga, who was seen arriving in Paris on Monday, and French R&B singer Aya Nakamura are also rumored to be performing.

This year's opening ceremony will be a historic departure from tradition, as it will be held along the River Seine rather than in a stadium. Athletes will parade in boats through central Paris, culminating at the Eiffel Tower. The event, designed by theatre director Thomas Jolly, promises to be a unique and memorable spectacle.
