This partnership aims to help improve the health system in Uzbekistan by using genomics, which is the study of genes and DNA. The two groups want to work on preventing diseases, creating new ways to screen for diseases, and improving diagnosis methods. They also plan to create the Uzbek Genome Program, which will study the genetic makeup of the people in Uzbekistan. This will help understand the diseases they are more likely to get and find better ways to prevent them. The partnership will also focus on developing tools to find diseases early, prevent inherited genetic diseases, and create ways to test for conditions like cancer and heart disease.
The agreement will also help build the skills of health professionals in Uzbekistan, provide training, and improve the local healthcare system. M42 has experience in building large-scale genomics programs, having worked on the Emirati Genome Program in the UAE, which studies the genetics of people in the UAE. They will use this knowledge to help Uzbekistan with its own genomics program.
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Managing Director and CEO of M42, said that this partnership will help improve Uzbekistan’s health system and will be important for the global study of genetics. He explained that many populations around the world have not been included in genetic research, which means they miss out on better treatments and early disease detection. He said that the Uzbek Genome Program will help change this and improve health for the people of Uzbekistan.
Dr. Fahed Al Marzooqi, Deputy COO at M42, added that working with Uzbekistan will help move the country’s health system from treating diseases to preventing them. He said that M42’s genomics program is one of the largest in the world and will be very helpful for Uzbekistan.
Farhkodjon Tashpulatov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Health, said that studying the genetics of the Uzbek population will allow for programs to catch diseases early and prevent them. He also said that this partnership will help Uzbekistan improve its healthcare and become a leader in genomics in Central Asia. This agreement marks an important step for Uzbekistan in creating better ways to prevent and treat diseases.
M42 has one of the largest genomics centers in the world, located in Abu Dhabi. It has the ability to study up to 400,000 genomes every year. This center will be an important part of the partnership with Uzbekistan, helping improve the country’s ability to study and understand genetics and health.
