Delta planes collide at LaGuardia, wing ripped off

New York’s LaGuardia Airport witnessed a dramatic accident on Wednesday night when two Delta Airlines planes collided while taxiing, leaving one aircraft with its wing ripped apart. The rare incident caused chaos on the tarmac, flashing emergency lights filling the scene as passengers looked on in shock.

According to air traffic control recordings, the nose of one Delta jet struck the right wing of another while both planes were moving on the ground. Pilots reported visible damage to their windshield after the collision. Video clips shared on social media, seemingly filmed from nearby planes, captured the moment emergency crews rushed in to secure the area.

The accident occurred at around 9:56 p.m. local time. One passenger was reported injured. One of the planes involved was arriving from Charlotte Douglas International Airport when its wing was caught by another Delta regional jet, causing it to break off completely.

Delta Airlines has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The accident adds to rising safety concerns at LaGuardia Airport. Earlier this year in March, another Delta plane’s wing struck the runway during a landing attempt, forcing a go-around and prompting an investigation by aviation authorities.
