Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of New Zealand’s three-match ODI series against England due to stiffness in his side. The series begins on Sunday in Mount Maunganui. New Zealand Cricket confirmed that the 30-year-old bowler will focus on recovery and aims to return for November’s series against the West Indies.
Coach Rob Walter explained that Jamieson experienced stiffness after a recent bowling session. “We didn’t want to take any risks at this stage of the summer,” Walter said. He added that sitting out the ODI series will give Jamieson the best chance to be ready for the West Indies tour, which begins on November 5 in Auckland.
Jamieson’s absence highlights the importance of managing player fitness during a busy international schedule. New Zealand Cricket is taking a cautious approach to ensure Jamieson recovers fully and avoids further injury, protecting both the player and the team’s long-term interests.
With Jamieson out, New Zealand will have to adjust its bowling lineup for the series. The team will rely on other fast bowlers and pace options to maintain competitiveness against England. Jamieson’s experience and skill in one-day internationals will be missed, but the team aims to perform strongly despite his absence.
England recently won the T20I series 1-0 against New Zealand, after the second game, while two other matches were washed out. The ODI series offers New Zealand a chance to rebound and test their squad depth ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
Jamieson is expected to recover in time for the West Indies tour, which starts on November 5 in Auckland. His presence will be crucial for New Zealand’s bowling attack in both the ODI and T20 formats, adding experience, pace, and strike capability.
New Zealand Cricket is focusing on player rotation, injury management, and strategic planning to ensure top performance throughout the busy season. While Jamieson recovers, the team will continue to prepare for the England series, using it as an opportunity to test emerging talent and refine strategies.
