Korea’s ICT Exports Soar 14% in September on Chip Boom

South Korea’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector recorded a remarkable jump in exports last month, fueled by a global demand surge for semiconductors. Outbound shipments in September rose 14 percent year-on-year, reaching a record $25.43 billion—the highest for any September on record.

Semiconductors Lead the Growth

The Ministry of Science and ICT attributed the export surge to robust semiconductor shipments, which climbed 21.9 percent from last year to $16.62 billion. Higher memory chip prices and growing investments in AI servers by international companies have been pivotal drivers. Analysts note that this trend highlights South Korea’s dominant position in the global chip market.

Imports and Trade Balance

Imports of ICT products also increased, rising 10.4 percent to $13.78 billion. Despite the growth in imports, the sector maintained a healthy trade surplus of $11.65 billion, underlining the strong export momentum.
