Google to Launch $15B AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, India’s Largest

Visakhapatnam is set to become a major hub for artificial intelligence as Google announces its largest investment in India: a $15 billion AI and data centre facility. The tech giant, in collaboration with the Adani Group, plans to build a state-of-the-art AI hub that will combine high-capacity computing, advanced energy infrastructure, and an international subsea gateway.

Speaking on the development, Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted that the project will bring cutting-edge technology to Indian enterprises and accelerate AI innovation across the country. The hub is expected to serve as a cornerstone for large-scale AI-driven services, supporting both businesses and users.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the investment, calling it a step toward a “Viksit Bharat.” He emphasized that the facility will democratize technology, expand India’s digital economy, and strengthen the nation’s position as a global tech leader.

The agreement, formally signed in Delhi, also saw participation from top Indian officials including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The state government called the project a “new chapter” in India’s digital transformation, highlighting its potential to nurture AI skills among the youth.

Google’s announcement comes amid increasing competition among global tech giants investing in India. Microsoft and Amazon have already poured billions into building AI-focused data centres to tap into India’s rapidly growing internet population, which is expected to surpass 900 million by the end of the year.

With the Visakhapatnam hub, India is set to witness a generational shift in AI capabilities, positioning itself at the forefront of technology innovation in Asia.
