In a scathing critique following the first presidential debate, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show expressed disbelief and frustration over the performances of Donald Trump and Joe Biden. During his Thursday monologue, the 61-year-old comedian pulled no punches, highlighting Trump's false claims and Biden's perceived shortcomings.
Stewart, known for his sharp wit and commentary, did not hold back in his assessment of the debate contenders. "Let me just say, after watching tonight's debate, both of these men should be using performance-enhancing drugs!" Stewart exclaimed, visibly exasperated. He emphasized the need for any means to improve their clarity, problem-solving abilities, and in Trump's case, truthfulness and demeanor.
"They should be taking whatever magical drugs can kick their brains into gear 'cause this ain't Olympic swimming," Stewart quipped, criticizing the candidates' preparedness and coherence.

During the monologue, Stewart particularly targeted Biden for what he perceived as a faltering moment regarding Medicare, mocking Biden's attempts to articulate his stance. "OK, high-pressure situation. A lot of times, you can confuse saving Medicare with beating it," Stewart sarcastically remarked, poking fun at Biden's delivery which he suggested might have caused dismay among Democrats watching the debate.
The monologue crescendoed with Stewart visibly defeated, symbolically tearing up his stack of papers in frustration. "And by the way, if those drugs don’t exist, if there aren’t actually performance-enhancing drugs for these candidates, I could sure use some recreational ones right now. Because this cannot be real life. It just can’t," Stewart concluded, reflecting his incredulity at the state of the debate and the political landscape.
Stewart's impassioned critique resonated widely, reflecting broader public sentiments about the contentious nature of the debate and the high stakes of the upcoming presidential election.
