Japan’s Utsunomiya Brex won the 2025 Basketball Champions League Asia title in a very exciting game. They beat Lebanon’s team, Al Riyadi, by just one point. The final score was 94–93. The game was played in Dubai at the Coca-Cola Arena.
The match was very close and full of action. In the last few seconds, DJ Newbill from Brex scored a very important 3-point shot. Before that shot, Brex was losing 91–93. But Newbill’s shot gave them the lead and helped them win the game.
Makoto Hiejima played an amazing game. He scored 30 points and made six 3-point shots. He also got 9 rebounds and 5 assists. DJ Newbill also played very well. He scored 21 points and gave 5 assists. Because of his great performance, Newbill was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the tournament.
Brex was already in good form before this tournament. They had just won the 2024–25 basketball league in Japan. In the semi-final, they made 19 three-point shots — the most in the last 10 years of the tournament — and beat Mongolia’s team, Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos, 93–71.
This win is a big moment for Japan. It is only the second time a Japanese team has won this tournament. The first time was in 2019 when Alvark Tokyo won. Al Riyadi, who won last year, could not win again this time.
Because Brex won, they will now play in the 2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore. This is a big international basketball event.
DJ Newbill and Makoto Hiejima were also chosen in the tournament’s top five players. The final team rankings are:
Brex’s win made many basketball fans in Japan very happy. The team showed great teamwork, strong focus, and big heart. Their win is a proud moment for Japanese basketball.
This victory also shows that Japan’s basketball teams are becoming stronger and better in Asia and the world.
