World No. 2 Jannik Sinner powered past Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 to claim the ATP Miami Masters 1000 title for the second time on Sunday, adding it to his Indian Wells crown.
Sinner had to navigate multiple rain delays, yet he became the first male player since Roger Federer in 2017 to sweep the elite hard-court tournaments in California and Florida — the so-called “Sunshine Double” — without dropping a set.
The Italian’s victory also marks his third straight Masters 1000 win, starting with Paris last year, after returning from a three-month doping ban that caused him to miss last year’s Miami event. "It's a very, very special moment," Sinner said. "Performing again after Indian Wells means a lot to me. It's difficult to achieve."
Sinner’s triumph, alongside Aryna Sabalenka’s win over Coco Gauff, marks the first time the Indian Wells-Miami sweep was achieved on both men’s and women’s sides since Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka in 2016.
The victory also narrows the gap on Carlos Alcaraz in the race for World No. 1, as the clay court season approaches.
Despite heavy showers delaying the match for over 90 minutes, Sinner remained unfazed, hitting 10 aces and winning 33 of 36 first-serve points. He broke Lehecka’s serve early and held his own under pressure, firing multiple aces to save break points.
Sinner’s precision on returns and consistent net play secured the first set 6-4. The second set followed the same pattern, with Lehecka gifting a break opportunity that Sinner capitalized on to lead 5-4, ultimately closing the match with another volley winner.
Lehecka, making his first Masters 1000 final, will achieve a career-high ranking of World No. 14 on Monday. "I came here in not-so-good form and managed to return to the tennis I want to play," Lehecka said at the trophy ceremony.
