International mobile phone brands experienced a significant boost in China during November, indicating a resurgence in demand for foreign smartphones after a period of stagnation.
The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) reported a remarkable 128.4% increase in shipments of overseas brands compared to the same month last year. This surge is notable when the overall smartphone market in China saw only a marginal uptick.
In total, mobile phone shipments in China reached 30.16 million units in November, reflecting a slight increase of 1.9% year-on-year. Notably, foreign-made models comprised 6.93 million units, underscoring their rising share in the market.
Apple's iPhone was pivotal in this recovery, particularly with the launch of the iPhone 17 series that attracted many buyers in major urban areas like Beijing, where high foot traffic was noted at Apple stores throughout the sales period.
Over the past year, global smartphone manufacturers have navigated challenges from diminished consumer spending and fierce competition from Chinese brands that provide high-spec devices at lower prices. However, the latest figures indicate a gradual return of consumer confidence, especially regarding premium offerings.
Analysts speculate that the combination of seasonal shopping patterns, timely product launches, and end-of-year promotions contributed to the sales boost. More encouragingly, the considerable increase points to sustained interest in international brands rather than merely a fleeting spike.
The November statistics herald a positive development for global tech companies operating in China. Although the market remains fiercely competitive, demand for foreign smartphones seems to be stabilizing after recent challenges.
