Intel's new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is making big changes to the company. He became the CEO last month and now he wants to make the company work better and faster. Tan decided to change the leadership structure of Intel to make decisions quicker and focus more on engineering and new ideas.

One of the first things he did was promote Sachin Katti to a new role as Chief Technology and Artificial Intelligence Officer. Katti, who was in charge of Intel's networking chips, will now lead the company's work on new technologies and make sure Intel stays ahead in AI. He is also a professor at Stanford University. Katti is taking over from Greg Lavender, who is retiring.
Tan also said he wants to get more involved with the engineering teams to learn what needs to be done to improve Intel’s products. He believes that too many rules and layers in the company are slowing things down and stopping Intel from being as creative as it should be.
The new changes mean that Intel's main divisions, including the teams that make chips for computers and data centers, will report directly to Tan. Before, these teams reported to another manager. Michelle Johnston Holthaus, who was leading these teams, will still be the CEO of Intel Products, but her job will change.
These changes come at a time when Intel has been facing tough competition, especially in AI chips, where companies like Nvidia are leading. Intel has also faced some problems with making new chips. Earlier this year, Intel canceled one of its big projects, the Falcon Shores AI chip, showing that it is struggling to put together a strong AI strategy, even after buying some smaller companies.
Tan’s plan is to make Intel simpler and more focused on engineering. Three top engineers at Intel—Rob Bruckner, Mike Hurley, and Lisa Pearce—will now report directly to him. This move is meant to help speed up new ideas and make decisions faster.
Intel is also looking for someone new to lead the Government Affairs team. This person will also report directly to Tan. The last person in charge, Bruce Andrews, left after the 2024 U.S. elections.
Overall, Tan wants Intel to be a smaller, faster company that focuses on creating new and better technology. He believes that by cutting down on management and removing unnecessary steps, Intel can get back to being a leader in the tech world.
