IndiGo’s flight disruption crisis has entered its fourth straight day, leaving thousands of passengers stranded across the country. India’s largest airline has cancelled all domestic flights scheduled to depart from Delhi Airport till midnight as it struggles to manage a severe operational breakdown.
A video from one of the busy airports has gone viral online, capturing the growing frustration among passengers amid the ongoing cancellations and long delays. The clip shows chaotic scenes and exhausted travellers waiting for clarity from airline staff.
Across several airports, passengers complained of being stuck for hours as IndiGo cancelled over 500 flights, while many more were delayed. The airline, which operates around 2,300 flights daily with a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, has seen its punctuality collapse due to a massive shortage of pilots — a situation officials say could have been avoided with better planning.
Amid the chaos, another video gained widespread attention. In the footage, a distressed father at Delhi Airport is seen pleading with IndiGo staff for sanitary pads for his daughter, who was reportedly bleeding.
“Sister, my daughter needs sanitary pads… she is bleeding. A father is crying. Flights are not running on time. Everything is going wrong,” the man can be heard saying.
News18 stated it could not independently verify the authenticity of this video, but it has sparked heated conversations about the airline’s handling of the crisis, especially when passengers need urgent assistance.
With the disruptions continuing for days, travellers are facing extreme stress, unresponsive staff, and almost no communication regarding rescheduled flights. Several people have taken to social media to share their experiences, including a foreign traveller who climbed onto an IndiGo counter in frustration over indefinite delays. Another passenger from Mumbai criticised the airline for deducting a refund amount after repeated cancellations.
As the situation worsens, the Government of India has ordered a high-level inquiry into the widespread disruption of IndiGo flights. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed the airline to implement immediate steps to stabilise operations and prevent further inconvenience.
According to a PIB release, the committee will examine what failed within IndiGo’s operations, identify those responsible, and recommend measures to ensure such incidents do not repeat. The probe aims to protect passengers from similar hardships in the future.
Officials say the operational disruption, fuelled by a critical shortage of pilots, is likely to continue for several days. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as more passengers across cities face cancellations, long delays, and unclear communication regarding alternative arrangements.
