India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards, Homebound, is set to release digitally on Netflix on November 21.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced under Dharma Productions, the film features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. The project is backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, with Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar serving as executive producers. Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier are co-producers.
The story follows childhood friends Shoaib (Khatter) and Chandan (Jethwa), who are bound by the shared dream of joining the police force. Janhvi Kapoor plays a pivotal emotional role as the narrative explores themes of friendship, duty and the struggles faced by young people in India.
Neeraj Ghaywan said the film’s arrival on Netflix marks an important step after its strong festival reception. He described Homebound as a story inspired by true events, highlighting connection and compassion as forms of quiet resistance.
Karan Johar called the film intimate and layered, expressing satisfaction that it will now reach audiences across the world through the streaming platform.
The film gained significant international attention during its festival run. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and later screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it secured the Second Runner-Up position for the International Audience Choice Award.
Homebound begins streaming exclusively on Netflix from November 21.
