India, having set a target of 192 runs, concluded the third day of the fourth Test against England at 40 for no loss. A successful chase on Monday would secure an insurmountable 3-1 lead for India in the five-match series.
At the end of play, captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were at the crease with scores of 24 and 16, respectively. The third day saw senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4/22) combine forces, taking nine wickets to dismantle England's second innings for a total of 145 on a pitch favoring slow bowlers.
Before the Ashwin-Kuldeep duo wreaked havoc, young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel exhibited remarkable game awareness, contributing an impressive 90 runs. Jurel formed crucial partnerships, including a 76-run stand for the eighth wicket with Kuldeep (28) and an additional 40 runs with Akash Deep, guiding India from a precarious position of 177/7 to nearing the 300-run mark.
India's first innings concluded at 307, providing a lead of 46 runs to the visitors. The stage is now set for an exciting final day, as India aims to secure victory and claim the series.
