HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently visited the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to review the progress of its massive expansion. He focused on the ongoing work in the 1,800MW sixth phase, which is being developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model. This phase of the project has attracted investments of up to AED 5.5 billion.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the world’s largest single-site solar energy project. It plays a major role in achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These initiatives aim to ensure that by 2050, all of Dubai’s power supply will come from clean energy sources.

During his visit, Al Tayer was accompanied by Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, along with senior officials and engineers. They were briefed by representatives from Shuaa Energy 4, the company handling the sixth phase of the solar park’s expansion. According to the update, the project is now 53% complete, with 600MW of the planned 1,800MW already in operation.
This phase of the project uses advanced bifacial solar photovoltaic technology, combined with single-axis tracking, to maximize efficiency. Once fully operational, it will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 540,000 homes while reducing carbon emissions by around 2.36 million tonnes per year. The entire sixth phase covers an area of 20 square kilometers.
At present, the solar park has a total production capacity of 3,460MW, with an additional 1,200MW currently under construction. By 2030, the park’s total capacity is expected to reach 7,260MW, making clean energy a key part of Dubai’s electricity supply. Once completed, the solar park will contribute about 34% of the city’s total energy production, bringing Dubai closer to its goal of a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
