His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, recently met with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait. This meeting was part of Sheikh Hamdan’s official visit to Kuwait, leading a high-level UAE delegation.
The discussions took place at Bayan Palace, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors. Both leaders underscored the strategic partnership between the UAE and Kuwait, emphasizing the pivotal roles played by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait. The talks were aimed at furthering mutual interests and supporting ongoing efforts for Gulf cooperation.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the exceptional cooperation between the UAE and Kuwait, noting their shared vision to expand partnerships and agreements while exchanging expertise and successful experiences across different fields. He commended Kuwait’s progress and achievements under the leadership of its Emir, particularly within the framework of the National Plan and Kuwait Vision 2035. Sheikh Hamdan expressed his wishes for continued security, stability, and prosperity for Kuwait.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan voiced his confidence that the upcoming phase would witness even greater collaboration between the two nations, especially in areas like trade, economy, tourism, and investment. He emphasized the importance of mutual visits to explore new opportunities for cooperation, not just at the government level, but also in the private sector. He pointed out the significant opportunities both countries offer to investors, companies, and entrepreneurs.
The dialogue also covered the progress in economic and trade relations, noting that the UAE is one of Kuwait’s key trade partners. The UAE ranks as Kuwait's second-largest trade partner globally, following China, and is the top trade partner in the Arab and Gulf regions. In 2023, the total volume of non-oil trade between the two nations reached AED 45.7 billion, marking an impressive growth of over 18.8% compared to 2021. During the first half of this year, non-oil trade between the UAE and Kuwait amounted to AED 23.6 billion, with expectations for continued growth in mutual trade throughout the latter half of 2024.
The meeting also addressed recent regional and global developments, discussing efforts to overcome challenges and enhance security and stability in the region. The leaders highlighted the positive outcomes resulting from effective cooperation between their countries, showcasing the growth in political relations that serve their shared interests and promote Gulf unity.
Following the discussions, Sheikh Hamdan attended a luncheon hosted by Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended by Kuwait’s leadership.
