Mexico City: A tragic shooting occurred on Saturday at a bar in the central Mexican city of Queretaro, where gunmen opened fire, killing 10 people and injuring at least 7 others. The attack took place at Los Cantaritos, a popular bar located in the city’s historic district, a typically safe area of the city, according to local officials.
Juan Luis Ferrusca, the head of Queretaro's public security department, confirmed that the attackers arrived in a pickup truck. He stated that at least four individuals armed with long-range weapons were responsible for the assault. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene and confirmed the fatalities and injuries.
"Inside the bar, 10 people were found dead, and at least seven others were injured," Ferrusca said in a video posted on social media. Authorities later reported that one suspect had been apprehended, though their identity was not immediately released. In addition, the vehicle used by the attackers was discovered abandoned and later found set on fire, suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence.

Queretaro, traditionally known for its safety compared to other cities in Mexico, has been relatively unaffected by the violent drug cartel activity that has ravaged other parts of the country. The attack is particularly shocking given the city's reputation for being a secure and peaceful place, attracting both tourists and locals.
The incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of violence linked to organized crime and drug trafficking in Mexico, a country where more than 450,000 people have been killed since 2006 due to gang-related violence. Authorities have promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack, and security measures in the area have been tightened in the aftermath.
This assault is expected to spark further concerns about the spread of violence to regions previously considered safe.
