Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, is facing serious accusations of rape and sexual battery. The allegations stem from a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles by Chanaaz Mangroe, a former protégé known as Channii Monroe.
Mangroe's lawsuit, comprising 60 pages, alleges that Gesteelde-Diamant, 47, subjected her to repeated sexual assaults, including forced intercourse, throttling, and coercing her into consuming excessive alcohol. She claims he also filmed an intimate encounter and threatened to expose it to others.
In her lawsuit, Mangroe, originally from the Netherlands and aspiring to establish herself as a singer and songwriter in the US, asserts that she first encountered Gesteelde-Diamant in January 2015. She accuses him of subjecting her to violent sexual encounters that left her physically bruised, forcing her into sexual acts in public settings like a movie theatre, and raping her in a renovated sprinter van.

The lawsuit further alleges that Gesteelde-Diamant made promises to Mangroe, such as elevating her to the stature of Beyoncé and Rihanna, and arranging for her to be the opening act of Beyoncé's tour and Grammy performances. Mangroe claims that Gesteelde-Diamant pressured her for sex, insisting it was part of her career advancement.
Mangroe asserts that the unwanted sexual encounters persisted, accompanied by promises of career opportunities. She alleges that Gesteelde-Diamant confined her in a dark room and continued sexual advances until she professed love for him.
In response to the allegations, Gesteelde-Diamant has vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as "untrue and defamatory." Through his representative, he expressed opposition to all forms of harassment and emphasized his commitment to assisting artists in realizing their career aspirations.
Mangroe, through her legal representation, conveyed the emotional toll of her decision to come forward, stating that speaking out was essential for her healing and could potentially prevent future instances of abuse.
Gesteelde-Diamant, a prominent figure in the music industry with eight Grammy Awards to his name, faces serious scrutiny amid the allegations. The lawsuit poses significant challenges to his reputation and raises questions about accountability and justice within the entertainment sector.
