India's passport, meanwhile, is ranked 82nd, granting visa-free access to 58 countries. This ranking places India alongside Senegal and Tajikistan. The Henley Passport Index utilizes data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), known for its extensive and accurate global travel information.

The top positions in the 2024 rankings highlight significant global mobility:

  • Singapore holds the number one spot, offering access to 195 countries.
  • France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain are tied for second place, each providing visa-free access to 192 countries.
  • Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden are in third place, with access to 191 destinations.
  • United Kingdom, New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland share the fourth position, allowing visa-free travel to 190 countries.
  • Australia and Portugal are in fifth place, each with access to 189 countries.
  • Greece and Poland come next, holding the sixth position with 188 destinations.
  • Canada, Czechia, Hungary, and Malta are tied for seventh place, offering access to 187 countries.
  • United States has dropped to eighth place, granting visa-free entry to 186 countries.
  • Estonia, Lithuania, and the United Arab Emirates are in ninth place with 185 destinations.
  • Iceland, Latvia, Slovakia, and Slovenia complete the top ten with 184 destinations.

At the lower end of the spectrum, Pakistan is ranked 100th, allowing visa-free access to only 33 countries, while Afghanistan is at the bottom, providing access to just 26 destinations.

Christian Kaelin, Chair of Henley & Partners, noted the increasing global mobility disparity. "The global average number of destinations travelers can access visa-free has nearly doubled from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024. However, the gap between the top and bottom of the index is now wider than ever," he commented.

The Henley Passport Index has been tracking global passport power for 19 years, utilizing exclusive data from IATA to provide a real-time, interactive tool for sorting and ranking the world's passports. This tool reflects changes in visa policies throughout the year.
