Geneva, Switzerland: The UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division has called for wide-ranging reforms to strengthen the United Nations, emphasizing that success should be measured by tangible progress in peace, security, sustainable development, and humanitarian aid, rather than merely through budget cuts.
Speaking at the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Dr. Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, member of the FNC Parliamentary Division, highlighted the UN’s 80th anniversary as a critical moment to boost the effectiveness and relevance of the global body in addressing today’s complex challenges.
Transparent and Inclusive Reforms
Dr. Al Muhairi stressed that reforms should be carried out transparently and inclusively to enhance global confidence in the UN system. He underscored the role of national parliaments in ensuring government accountability and proper funding while maintaining the organization’s humanitarian mission.
