Tennis icon Novak Djokovic has stated that he will refrain from participating in this year’s Paris Masters. The 38-year-old disclosed this information on social media platform X, where he reflected on his cherished memories at the tournament, including seven title victories, without mentioning a specific reason for his absence.
In his post, Djokovic conveyed, “Dear Paris, Unfortunately, I won’t be joining at this year’s Rolex Paris Masters. I have wonderful memories and great successes throughout the years, especially taking the title seven times. Looking forward to returning next year. Merci.” His message carried a tone of both appreciation and sorrow for missing out on a tournament significant to his career.
Previously, Djokovic competed at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an exhibition featuring six elite male players. He experienced a bye in the first round, but eventually lost to future champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. Although he was scheduled for a third-place play-off against Taylor Fritz, he retired after the first set due to undisclosed challenges.
Before the Riyadh exhibition, Djokovic competed in the Shanghai Masters where he endured a leg injury, potentially affecting his readiness for upcoming tournaments. Nonetheless, he displayed remarkable resilience by reaching the semi-finals in Shanghai.
This season, Djokovic has only participated in eight ATP Tour events outside of the four Grand Slams, reaching the semi-finals in all four major tournaments, namely the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. His selective tournament schedule from late May to late September underlines his focus.
The 2025 Paris Masters, taking place from October 27 to November 2, will see top-ranked players like World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz and No.2 Jannik Sinner compete. Djokovic’s decision not to participate allows other challengers the opportunity to vie for the prestigious Masters 1000 title. Following this event, the ATP Finals set for November 9-16 in Turin, Italy, will mark the conclusion of the season for leading players.
Djokovic’s impressive history at the Paris Masters, with seven titles, significantly enhances his storied career. His absence this year is an unexpected shift, as many anticipated his participation to bolster his ATP ranking and built momentum leading into the ATP Finals.
Although Djokovic did not clarify his reasons for skipping the Paris Masters, his plan offers fans a chance to reflect on his remarkable legacy at the tournament. Attention is now directed toward Alcaraz, Sinner, and other top competitors in Paris, with Djokovic likely returning to competition soon. His decision emphasizes the careful balancing act between fitness management, recovery, and competitive performance.
