The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning is working on the Salalah Master Plan to make the Dhofar region better. This plan will cover more than 427 million square meters of land between Salalah and Taqah and will provide homes for more than 480,000 people. It is an important step for Dhofar’s development.
Sultan bin Hamad al Ghafri, the Director of Housing and Urban Planning in Dhofar, said the first two phases are done. These phases included gathering information and making early plans. Now, they are focusing on the main plan and details for the region. The project is based on three key ideas: good teamwork between government departments, meeting the local community’s needs, and getting help from both the government and private companies for funding and managing the project.

A big part of the plan is the ‘Future City’ of Salalah, which will be 7 square kilometers. This city will have 12,000 homes for 60,000 people. It will include modern buildings, parks, and even a seafront. The city will also use new technology and green energy to be good for the environment and last for a long time.
In 2024, the Housing and Urban Planning department in Dhofar worked even harder on the project by having over 150 meetings with different groups, including government officials, businesses, and local people.
The Ministry also spent RO2.9 million to help people in Dhofar buy houses, build new homes, and fix damaged ones. Over RO4 million has been spent on housing help so far.
The economy in Dhofar is doing well, with real estate trading reaching RO65 million in the third quarter of 2024. This is 80% higher than the previous quarter.
