The Mexican Navy announced on Tuesday that the body of a previously missing passenger has been discovered, elevating the total fatalities from the military aircraft crash to six.
The plane, which was transporting eight individuals, went down on Monday. Officials report that two passengers managed to survive and are now receiving stable medical care.
In her morning briefing, President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned that a two-year-old child is among the deceased. She extended her heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, emphasizing that the flight included medical staff, Navy members, and family accompanying the child.
Local news outlet N+ revealed that the child had suffered extensive third-degree burns from a scalding water incident. Hospitals in Escárcega, near the child's hometown, were unable to treat the injuries, prompting a transfer to a specialized facility.
The family eventually connected with the Michou y Mau Foundation in Mérida, which assists children facing severe burn injuries. The foundation often facilitates treatment at hospitals in Galveston, Texas.
Authorities in Galveston have yet to provide further information. Additionally, the cause of the crash remains unspecified by the Mexican Navy.
President Sheinbaum confirmed that a thorough investigation is in progress, working in close collaboration with US officials to uncover details from the final ten minutes of the flight when communication with ground control ceased.
US Ambassador Ronald Johnson has expressed his condolences, stating that he is keeping those affected by the tragedy in his thoughts and prayers.
