The Service Station of the Future, located at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, stands as a beacon of ENOC’s commitment to sustainability. Drawing inspiration from nature, the station's design is based on the principles of biomimicry, which involves creating materials and structures that mimic natural processes and organisms. This approach not only enhances the station’s aesthetic but also boosts its environmental performance. The facility’s design and construction have set new standards in sustainability, earning it the prestigious LEED Platinum certification, making it the world’s first service station to achieve this milestone. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system globally, and Platinum is its highest certification, awarded only to projects demonstrating exceptional performance in energy efficiency, water conservation, and reducing CO2 emissions.
The WSHAsia Award, which celebrates companies for their contributions to environmental sustainability in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) industry, recognised ENOC for its proactive approach in adapting its products and services to address both current and future environmental challenges. The award specifically acknowledged the innovative solutions deployed in the Service Station of the Future, which demonstrate how businesses can reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining operational excellence.
His Excellency Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC, expressed his pride in receiving the award, noting that sustainability has long been central to ENOC’s brand ethos. “Our multi-award-winning Service Station of the Future at the Expo 2020 site is a reflection of our aspiration to further drive innovation and sustainability in line with the requirements of the future,” Al Falasi said. He emphasised that the WSHAsia Award aligns with ENOC’s long-standing commitment to energy savings and water efficiency, which also supports the UAE’s broader vision under its Energy Strategy 2050, aimed at increasing the contribution of clean energy and reducing the carbon footprint.
ENOC’s Service Station of the Future was developed to support the UAE’s ambitions in becoming a global leader in clean energy transition. Over the years, ENOC has built a strong infrastructure to fuel the country’s growing energy needs while ensuring its operations contribute to sustainability. The innovative technologies implemented in the Service Station of the Future further solidify ENOC’s role in Dubai’s economic growth and the UAE’s transition to a more diversified, sustainable energy mix.
The station operates on a hybrid energy model, utilizing both renewable and traditional energy sources. It is equipped with 283 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels that generate 140MWh of solar power annually, contributing significantly to the station’s energy needs. A 25-meter wind turbine, capable of producing 12.7MWh of wind energy annually, further enhances the station’s renewable energy output. The station spans 5,841.87 square meters within the 4.38 square kilometer Expo 2020 Dubai site and incorporates multiple sustainability features designed to reduce its environmental impact.
Since its unveiling, the Service Station of the Future has garnered recognition from various global and local bodies for its forward-thinking design and operational efficiency. Its blend of renewable energy sources, eco-friendly design, and cutting-edge technologies has made it a model for future service stations, highlighting how the energy industry can adopt more sustainable practices.
With this award, ENOC continues to solidify its position as a leading force in sustainability within the energy sector, underscoring its role in helping the UAE achieve its energy and environmental goals. As the country moves toward a cleaner, greener future, ENOC remains at the forefront, driving change and fostering innovation across its operations.
