Elon Musk advises OpenAI, now ClosedAI, replacing Sam Altman.

Billionaire Elon Musk has initiated legal action against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, the organization responsible for developing ChatGPT, alleging breach of contractual obligations dating back to the establishment of the ChatGPT-making firm in 2015. Musk contends that OpenAI has strayed from its original mission of advancing AI for the betterment of humanity by prioritizing profit over altruism. Lawyers representing Musk assert that OpenAI's pursuit of financial gain contradicts the principles outlined in their initial agreement. Elon Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but relinquished his position on the company's board in 2018.

In a recent development, Musk has proposed dropping the lawsuit against OpenAI on the condition that they rename themselves "'ClosedAI". Through a post on X, Musk conveyed his demand for a name change, emphasizing the need for OpenAI to align its branding with its operational practices. Additionally, Musk shared an edited image of Sam Altman wearing a guest ID card bearing the name "ClosedAI" alongside OpenAI's logo, further reinforcing his stance.

This move by Musk follows OpenAI's release of private email correspondences between him and the organization in response to the lawsuit on March 6. In a blog post, OpenAI expressed disappointment over the legal dispute, lamenting the deterioration of their relationship with someone they once deeply admired. They recalled Musk's initial involvement and subsequent departure, citing his belief that the probability of their success was negligible. Musk had proposed integrating OpenAI with Tesla as a revenue source, an idea that was rejected by the OpenAI team. Subsequently, Musk announced his intention to develop an AGI competitor within Tesla and left OpenAI in February 2018, assuring the team of his support in seeking alternative avenues for funding.

The unfolding legal saga between Musk and OpenAI underscores the complex dynamics surrounding the intersection of technology, ethics, and business interests in the AI landscape.
