Egypt has officially declared its intention to intervene in support of South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This move was announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. The decision to intervene comes amid growing concerns over the severity and extent of Israeli attacks targeting Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
According to the ministry's statement, these attacks have included deliberate targeting of civilians, destruction of infrastructure, forced displacement, and the creation of unbearable living conditions. Such actions, the ministry contends, constitute a blatant violation of international law, humanitarian law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which outlines protections for civilians during times of conflict.

Egypt has called upon Israel, as the occupying power, to fulfill its obligations under international law. This includes implementing interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice to ensure adequate access to humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza and refraining from any further violations against the Palestinian people, who are afforded protection under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reiterated Egypt's appeal to the UN Security Council and other influential international entities to take immediate action to halt the ongoing violations in Gaza and military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah. Egypt emphasized the importance of providing necessary protection for Palestinian civilians in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.
