Dubai RTA Workshop Unites 50 Public & Private Entities to Tackle Traffic and Drive Sustainable Growth

The "Connecting Bridges" workshop organized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai brought together representatives from 50 government and private-sector entities, including property developers, senior officials, international consultants, and experts. This event aimed to strengthen collaboration on road infrastructure, mobility services, and support Dubai's sustainable urban development goals.

Key highlights of the workshop included:

1. Strategic Focus on Infrastructure Development: Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, emphasized that road and transport infrastructure development remains a priority for Dubai, with over AED 150 billion invested over the past 19 years. The development is crucial for economic growth and urban advancement.

2. Addressing Traffic Density: Traffic density is a growing challenge due to Dubai's rapid population and tourist growth. By 2040, the city's population is expected to reach eight million, with vehicle ownership reaching 2.5 million in 2024. To manage this, solutions like flexible working hours, dynamic road tolling, and new projects like the Dubai Metro Blue Line were discussed.

3. Sustainable Solutions: Sustainable transport solutions were at the forefront, with the focus on improving traffic flow efficiency by 20-30%. RTA’s master plan includes over 30 strategic projects worth AED 40 billion, including corridor enhancements and metro line expansions.

4. Collaboration and Urban Planning: A key takeaway was the importance of stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, including real estate developers. Integrated urban planning and aligning service facilities are vital for sustainable urban growth.

5. Role of Technology: RTA’s adoption of big data and AI is seen as crucial for optimizing mobility and addressing community needs. Panel discussions highlighted the importance of smart infrastructure and technological solutions to manage traffic and improve efficiency.

6. Real Estate and Housing: Affordable housing, closer to workplaces, was discussed to reduce long commutes and ease congestion. Developers are encouraged to integrate new technologies and reduce construction costs to enhance Dubai’s appeal as a global investment hub.

7. Transportation and Smart Mobility: Participants emphasized the role of smart transport solutions, such as Careem’s peak-time pricing system, to balance supply and demand and reduce reliance on private vehicles.

The workshop also focused on reducing trip frequency, expanding access to emerging transport modes, deploying proactive road systems, and encouraging joint development initiatives. This collaborative effort between the public and private sectors aims to enhance mobility in Dubai, ensuring the city remains a top global destination for work and living.
