Dubai RTA Announces Metro Schedule Changes Starting August 3

Starting Saturday, August 3, commuters will experience changes in Dubai Metro operations, specifically for trips to the Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made the announcement on Friday via a post on X, previously known as Twitter.

The RTA emphasized the importance of passengers checking the display screens at stations to ensure they board the correct train. The new system will feature separate trips for those heading to either the UAE Exchange or the Expo 2020 stations on the Red Line. This adjustment aims to streamline the travel experience and prevent confusion.

To assist passengers in navigating these changes, the display screens at Metro stations will clearly indicate each train's route. The RTA strongly advises commuters to verify the information displayed before boarding to ensure they are on the correct train to reach their destination.

This change follows an earlier announcement by the RTA in April. The authority revealed that the Dubai Metro Red Line would begin operating a Y junction, a meeting point of three railways. This development is intended to eliminate the need for passengers to change trains at the Jabal Ali station. Commuters traveling between Centrepoint and UAE Exchange will benefit from a more direct route, no longer requiring a transfer at Jabal Ali Interchange Station.

In a separate announcement made in June, the Dubai Executive Council outlined plans to add more Metro stations over the coming years. The expansion is designed to enhance the current network from 64 stations covering 84 square kilometers to 96 stations over 140 square kilometers by 2030. The long-term goal is to expand to 140 stations spanning 228 square kilometers by 2040.

This extensive expansion aims to boost the share of public transport usage in Dubai to 45 percent, significantly reduce carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita, and improve the overall efficiency and convenience of the emirate's sustainable transport system. The RTA continues to prioritize enhancing the public transport network to meet the growing needs of Dubai's residents and visitors.
