The Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has launched the innovative ‘Dubai Code for Ports,’ a first-of-its-kind project globally. This detailed guide aims to set clear standards for developing and managing ports, marinas, and other maritime activities. It is designed to raise the bar for maritime infrastructure, both in Dubai and around the world.
His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, explained that the ‘Dubai Code for Ports’ is a major step toward improving the efficiency and sustainability of maritime operations. The project aligns with Dubai’s focus on sustainability, aiming to protect natural resources and preserve the marine environment. "We are focused on creating a safe, efficient space that supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and global trade," he said. This initiative will also strengthen Dubai’s key role in the global supply chain, supporting both local and international economies.
Bin Sulayem highlighted that this new project aims to enhance the effectiveness of port operations and ensure Dubai stays a global leader in the maritime sector. By implementing high technical standards in port and marina infrastructure, the ‘Dubai Code for Ports’ will help Dubai continue to lead in the global maritime industry.
The project was introduced after a strategic meeting with important maritime partners at Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel. During the session, His Excellency Nasser Al Neyadi, CEO of PCFC, said the ‘Dubai Code for Ports’ is a proactive move to address the rapid growth in maritime transport and infrastructure. He mentioned that this guide will help Dubai manage the increasing demand for maritime infrastructure in coastal regions while also supporting the city’s progress in trade, marine tourism, and other important economic activities.

Al Neyadi further explained that the ‘Dubai Code for Ports’ includes a unified guide outlining the key technical needs for port and maritime management. This guide covers areas like soil inspection, dredging, land reclamation, island building, soil improvement, water drainage, floating hotels, pontoons, breakwater design, and rock protection, among others. He is confident that this project will help Dubai manage port and marina operations more effectively while enhancing the overall experience for everyone involved.
The ‘Dubai Code for Ports’ will enable Dubai’s ports to meet internationally recognized technical standards. This will make it easier for everyone involved to follow the new guidelines and ensure that port and marina activities run smoothly. Dubai is now set to be recognized as a major global hub for trade, maritime activities, and tourism, boosting its global influence.
By introducing the ‘Dubai Code for Ports,’ Dubai sets a new international standard for the development and management of maritime infrastructure. This project reflects the city’s commitment to remaining a leader in global trade and maritime transport and reinforces its dedication to sustainable development and maintaining world-class infrastructure.
