The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that construction will commence this year on the Dh18 billion Dubai Metro Blue Line project. The ambitious expansion, set to transform the north-eastern part of the city, will include 14 stations and extend the Metro network by 30km, with more than half of it running underground. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, highlighted the project's significance in serving vital areas projected to house approximately one million people by 2040. The Blue Line will integrate with the Red and Green Lines, connecting five principal urban regions: Bur Dubai and Deira, Downtown and Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina and JBR, and Expo City Dubai. In 2021, the Dubai Metro accounted for 37% of mass transit, shared transport, and taxi users. The combined ridership of public transport and shared mobility reached 702 million in 2022, a 13% increase from 2021. The completion of the Blue Line is scheduled for 2029, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro. Once finished, the Dubai Metro will boast a total length of 131km, 78 stations, and be served by 168 trains.
