DIEZ–AHK Deal Paves Way for German Firms’ Growth in Dubai

Dubai has taken another step to strengthen its global business appeal. The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has signed a strategic partnership with the German–Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK), setting a strong framework to help German companies establish and expand in Dubai’s leading free zones.

The agreement was announced at a ceremony held at Dubai CommerCity, the region’s first free zone dedicated to digital commerce. The event was attended by senior officials, including H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, and Dr. Martin Henkelmann, CEO of AHK, alongside representatives from both sides.

Boosting German Presence in UAE

The new partnership aims to position Dubai’s economic zones as a preferred destination for German companies, particularly those focusing on advanced industries, smart manufacturing, and digital trade.

The initiative builds on strong economic ties between the UAE and Germany. Non-oil trade between the two countries reached AED 50.68 billion (USD 13.8 billion) in 2024, up by 5.4% compared to the previous year, underscoring the growing flow of goods, services, and investments.

Strategic Advantages Across Dubai’s Zones

The collaboration highlights the role of Dubai’s three key economic hubs:

• Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ): Offering strategic proximity to one of the world’s busiest airports, it will introduce a “DAFZ–Germany Fast Lane” to streamline cargo movement and customs for German exporters.

• Dubai CommerCity: A leading hub for e-commerce growth, it will support German online brands with fulfilment solutions and last-mile delivery innovations.

• Dubai Silicon Oasis: The city’s tech-driven innovation district will host a joint industrial innovation platform, focusing on Industry 4.0, sustainability, and smart manufacturing.

Currently, over 200 German companies, including Airbus, DHL, Henkel, Porsche, and Beumer, already operate within DIEZ zones.

Innovation and Startup Opportunities

The partnership goes beyond traditional trade. It creates a dedicated “German Desk” to guide companies through setup and compliance, along with tailor-made incentive packages for Council members.

Plans include launching an innovation hub at Dubai Silicon Oasis to host German industrial pilots and encourage collaboration between manufacturers and R&D teams.

Startups will also benefit from a dedicated venture-building programme, providing a soft-landing platform in Dubai and access to funding through local venture arms such as Oraseya Capital and Wadi.AI. In return, UAE startups will gain support to scale into Europe through AHK’s network in Germany.

Strengthening the UAE–Germany Economic Bridge

This move reflects a shared commitment to deepening economic cooperation in future-focused sectors. By combining Dubai’s advanced logistics, infrastructure, and innovation-friendly environment with Germany’s industrial strength and technological expertise, the partnership signals a new era of growth.

With enhanced trade facilitation, cross-border digital commerce support, and expanded startup opportunities, Dubai’s economic zones are positioning themselves as a gateway for German companies to reach not just the UAE, but the wider Middle East, Africa, and South Asia markets.
