Maharashtra Doctor Dies by Suicide, Names Policemen for Rape

A woman doctor from Maharashtra’s Satara district was found dead in a hotel room after reportedly dying by suicide, leaving behind a disturbing note written on her hand. In the note, she accused two police officers of sexually and mentally harassing her over a period of five months.

The doctor, identified as Dr. Sampada Munde, worked at a government-run hospital in Phaltan. In her note, she named Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane, alleging he raped her several times, and officer Prashant Bankar, whom she accused of mental harassment. The message written on her palm detailed the trauma she faced before taking the extreme step.

Authorities recovered her body late Thursday night and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Police have begun forensic analysis of the writing found on her hand to verify its authenticity and build the chain of events that led to her death.

Following the revelations, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the immediate suspension of the accused officers and directed the Satara police to ensure strict action against those named in the note. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the case would be treated with utmost seriousness.

Relatives of the deceased have made serious allegations, claiming that the doctor endured months of pressure and abuse by police officials. They demanded justice, insisting that those responsible face tough punishment.

Public outrage has grown across the state, with political leaders from the opposition demanding a time-bound investigation. Home Minister Pankaj Bhoyar assured that a detailed probe has been launched and that anyone found guilty will face severe legal consequences.

The case has reopened conversations about the safety and protection of women in public institutions and highlighted the urgent need for stronger accountability within law enforcement.
