DIFC’s ‘1 Million Learners’ to Boost Sustainability

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), a major financial center in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, has started a new programme called the ‘1 Million Learners’ initiative. This project is part of DIFC’s Sustainable Finance Catalyst, and it was officially announced at the Dubai FinTech Summit held at Madinat Jumeirah.

What is the Goal?

The goal of the ‘1 Million Learners’ initiative is to teach one million people about sustainability and sustainable finance by the year 2030. This means giving people the knowledge they need to help build a greener and fairer economy. DIFC wants to prepare a skilled group of workers who can support environmental protection and social responsibility while helping the economy grow.

Why is This Important?

As more countries and companies try to follow eco-friendly paths, understanding sustainability is becoming very important. This initiative shows that DIFC is serious about helping build a future where businesses care about the planet and people. They believe that education is the first big step toward real change.

What Did the CEO Say?

Arif Amiri, the CEO of DIFC Authority, said:“We are proud to lead sustainability efforts in our region. This programme proves our belief that real change starts with learning. With the help of our trusted partners, we are making it easier for people to access sustainability knowledge. This will help our region stay ahead in the world’s green movement.”

Who is Helping DIFC?

The programme has strong support. 28 founding partners from different industries are working with DIFC to make this project a success. These partners include schools, financial institutions, green energy groups, and global organisations. Some of the key names are:

• AICPA & CIMA

• C3

• Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership

• CFA Institute

• Emirates NBD

• Mastercard

• Visa

• United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

• World Green Economy Organisation

These partners believe in the importance of teaching people how to take care of the planet and make smart financial decisions at the same time.

How Will They Measure Success?

DIFC has chosen a special group called GIST Impact to track the results of the programme. GIST Impact is known around the world for its work in measuring social, environmental, and economic progress. They use methods based on trusted global standards, such as:

• United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

• Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)

• Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)

With GIST Impact’s help, DIFC will be able to measure how much the programme is helping people, especially in areas where access to education is low. GIST Impact will also help show how the programme improves lives, increases fairness, and creates more job opportunities.

The ‘1 Million Learners’ initiative is a big step forward for the region. It shows that DIFC is ready to lead not just in business, but also in building a better future for the planet and the people. Through learning and teamwork, they hope to make a real difference.
