India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given an important order to all airlines that fly to and from India. This order is effective immediately and asks airlines to make sure passengers are safe and comfortable during their flights. The decision comes after airspace in parts of South Asia was recently closed, and some flight routes have had to change. These changes may make flights longer and could even cause flights to make extra stops for refueling or technical reasons.

The DGCA’s new rules include a few key things airlines must do:
Informing Passengers: Airlines need to tell passengers about any changes in flight routes, longer travel times, or stops during their flight. Passengers should be informed about these changes at the check-in desk, when boarding the flight, and through digital alerts or messages.
Food and Drink on Board: Airlines must provide enough food and drink for the entire flight, based on the new, longer travel times. They also need to make sure that special meals are available, and food should be available during any technical stop the flight may need to make.
Medical Supplies: Airlines must check that they have enough medical supplies on board. They also need to make sure that emergency services are available at any airports where the flight might make a stop due to technical issues.
Customer Support: Airlines should have their customer service teams and call centers ready to help passengers who face delays, missed connections, or need assistance. The airlines may also need to offer compensation if the rules allow it.
The DGCA has made it clear that these rules are not optional. All airlines must follow them, or they could face legal action. This directive will stay in place until further notice.
In short, the DGCA wants to make sure that passengers traveling to and from India are well taken care of, especially during these times when flight routes are changing and flights may become longer.
