Out-of-favour Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has strongly criticized wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan for allegedly using religion to deflect criticism of his performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Rizwan, addressing a press conference in Peshawar, acknowledged the valid criticism of the team's performance but sparked controversy by referring to himself as the "brand ambassador of Islam."
"I believe that every human being represents two things. Firstly, as Muslims, we represent Islam wherever we are. Secondly, we represent Pakistan. Regardless of what others say," Rizwan asserted during the conference.
Shehzad, in response, lambasted Rizwan for what he termed as playing the "religion card" to overshadow his poor form.

"It's disappointing to see some players resorting to unnecessary press conferences and using religion to shield their poor performance in the World Cup. Where does religion stand when they mislead about fitness and admit to underperformance on the field? Does religion condone deceit and falsehood on the cricket field? Players are paid to perform, not to find excuses within team dynamics. Religion teaches accountability and commitment, not deflection," Shehzad expressed in a lengthy statement on social media platform X.
He reiterated his stance that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should take stringent action against such behaviors.
"We won't let PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi overlook the significant surgery he promised. Some players are mocking the chairman's statement, but we're committed to accountability. Fans deserve answers, and action against these players must be taken. We stand firm until Pakistan cricket is back on track," Shehzad added.
Earlier, Shehzad had urged the PCB to dismiss senior players from the team.
