Bologna Triumphs Over Inter Milan to Secure Super Cup Final Spot

On Friday, Bologna advanced to the Italian Super Cup final after a gripping encounter against Inter Milan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, leading to a penalty shoot-out where Bologna emerged victorious with a score of 3-2. Ciro Immobile scored the decisive penalty, paving the way for Bologna to face Serie A champions Napoli on Monday. Earlier, Napoli secured their spot by defeating AC Milan 2-0.

Immobile, who has endured a challenging season due to a thigh injury that sidelined him for most of the games, expressed gratitude for his supportive family, stating, "I've had three and a half months of suffering but I have a big family who helped me." The winning penalty was a memorable highlight in front of a modest crowd in Saudi Arabia.

The match started favorably for Inter Milan, with Marcus Thuram scoring early with a volley to take the lead. However, Riccardo Orsolini equalized for Bologna with a penalty just before half-time, and the score remained level until penalties. Bologna remained composed during the shoot-out, successfully converting their penalties, while Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Ange-Yoan Bonny all missed their attempts, securing Bologna's victory.

The Italian Super Cup traditionally features the winners of both Serie A and the Italian Cup. However, since 2023, it has also included the runners-up from each. The tournament will continue to take place in Saudi Arabia until 2029.

Bologna is now gearing up to face Napoli in the final. Immobile remarked, "Napoli are in great shape, but it’s a one-off match and anything can happen." Anticipation is high for the exciting showdown between these two formidable Italian clubs.
