Late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s family has announced their intent to legally challenge the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closure report into his death, describing it as an “eyewash” and asserting that the probe remains incomplete.
The closure report concludes that Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was a result of suicide and found no evidence of criminal involvement by actor Rhea Chakraborty, her family, or associates. The agency specifically stated that:
No one illegally confined, provoked, or abetted Sushant to take his life.
There were no financial irregularities or theft. The report mentions that when Rhea and her brother Showik left Sushant’s apartment on June 8, 2020, they took only personal items — an Apple laptop and watch gifted by Sushant.
Timeline Leading to Sushant’s Death
The report outlines key details from June 8–14, 2020:
Rhea and Showik had minimal contact with Sushant, limited to a brief WhatsApp exchange on June 10.
Sushant’s sister, Meetu Singh, stayed with him from June 8 to June 12.
His manager, Shruti Modi, had not visited the apartment since February due to an injury.
The CBI found no digital or physical evidence that Rhea or any accused had influenced Sushant in any way linked to his death.
Claims of Threats and Illegal Confinement
Sushant’s family alleged that Rhea threatened to disclose his medical records. However, the CBI dismissed these claims as “hearsay,” citing no supporting messages or recordings.
Additionally, the closure report explicitly states that there was no evidence suggesting Sushant was illegally confined or restrained by anyone.
Family’s Rejection of CBI Report
Sushant Singh Rajput’s family, through their lawyer Advocate Varun Singh, strongly rejected the findings, calling the report “incomplete” and lacking crucial supporting documents. They allege that chats, technical data, and medical records were not included in the final closure report.
Describing the report as “flimsy” and “legally untenable,” the family maintains that the investigation was not thorough. They are preparing to file a protest petition to reopen the case and insist on pursuing the matter until “the truth comes out.”
If the court admits the protest petition, the case could see fresh legal proceedings or even a court-monitored re-investigation. While the CBI has officially ruled out foul play, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family continues to assert that the investigation remains incomplete and is determined to seek further legal scrutiny.
