In a troubling incident near Toronto, Canadian police clashed with Hindu devotees protesting an attack on a local temple, allegedly carried out by "anti-India elements." Videos shared by a Canadian journalist depicted the violent confrontation, showcasing officers assaulting protesters who were waving Indian flags. One video particularly captured a police officer charging at a protester and delivering multiple punches, prompting outrage from the crowd.

The woman filming the incident can be heard commenting, "He is hitting with a stick," as she points out the officer's aggressive behavior towards the temple-goers. The situation escalated as the enraged crowd began chanting, "Take him out," in response to the perceived police brutality.

According to the journalist who released the footage, the police targeted the Hindu devotees to protect a group of individuals identified as Khalistan supporters, who were allegedly harassing attendees at the temple during the Diwali celebrations. Earlier that day, a mob had stormed the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, resulting in physical assaults on the devotees.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly condemned the violence, stating, "The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely." His remarks were made via a post on social media platform X, highlighting the government's stance against religious intolerance.

In a statement regarding the incident, the Indian embassy in Canada asserted that "anti-India elements" were responsible for orchestrating the violence outside its consular camp, which had been co-organized by the temple. The embassy expressed disappointment over the attacks and noted that similar attempts to disrupt events had occurred in Surrey and Vancouver in the preceding days.

These events unfold against a backdrop of heightened diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, exacerbated by Trudeau's allegations that India was involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has vehemently dismissed these claims as baseless and has also accused Canada of harboring terrorists and extremists.

The escalating situation underscores the complex and often fraught relationship between the two nations, with communities caught in the crossfire of geopolitical tensions and local conflicts.
