A Punjabi television and radio host has been handed a five-and-a-half-year prison term in Canada following a conviction tied to a major methamphetamine smuggling operation.
Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, aged 47, was sentenced by Justice John Gibb-Carsley at the B.C. Supreme Court on April 10, 2026. This case stems from an event that occurred on October 18, 2021, at the Pacific Border Crossing.
Court documents reveal that Sangha attempted to enter Canada from the U.S. when she was instructed by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials to submit her vehicle for further inspection. Rather than comply, she sped away, prompting a chase by border authorities.
After a brief pursuit, officials managed to stop and apprehend her. A search of the rental car uncovered around 108 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in duffle bags in the trunk. This substantial amount indicated involvement in a significant trafficking operation.
The court took into account the gravity of the crime, considering both the magnitude of the drug seizure and the efforts to evade law enforcement. Given the dangerous nature of methamphetamine, such large-scale cases pose significant risks to public safety.
