Authorities in Australia have verified that the two individuals behind the tragic shooting at a Jewish gathering on Bondi Beach acted independently and were not affiliated with any larger terrorist group. This incident, which resulted in 15 fatalities, stands as the deadliest mass shooting in Australia since 1996.

Identified as Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed Akram, 24, the duo journeyed to the Philippines on November 1, first arriving in Manila before proceeding to Davao City on the same day. Their stay lasted until returning to Sydney on November 29. Australian authorities report no evidence of them undergoing terrorist training or receiving any logistical assistance while in the Philippines. Investigations indicate that they primarily remained confined to their hotel with limited excursions.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced to the media that CCTV footage from their visit to the Philippines has been shared with Australian officials. Preliminary analysis suggests the men acted alone. There is no indication that they had ties to a broader terrorist network or were fulfilling directions from others. However, Commissioner Barrett highlighted that their trip wasn't for tourism, though detailed motives remain undisclosed.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese remarked on the incident, noting that the attackers seemed to be motivated by Islamic State ideology. During the Hanukkah event attack at Bondi Beach, police fatally shot Sajid Akram. Naveed Akram, who sustained injuries, is now hospitalized and faces 59 charges, including 15 counts of murder and a charge of terrorism. His court date is set for April.

The Philippine immigration bureau revealed that Sajid entered with an Indian passport, while Naveed used his Australian passport. Both indicated Davao as their destination before returning home. Although Davao City, located on Mindanao Island, has affiliates of Islamist militant groups, there is currently no evidence connecting the Akram pair to these entities or other terrorist groups.

The investigation continues, with law enforcement alerting that new findings may arise as the case evolves. Authorities are steadfast in uncovering all details related to the attack to ensure justice and public safety.
