A serious train accident occurred in the Czech Republic on Thursday morning, injuring 57 people, with at least five suffering serious injuries. The collision involved two passenger trains near the city of Ceske Budejovice in the country’s south.
The crash took place around 6:20 am local time, approximately 74 miles south of Prague. One of the trains involved was an express service. Fire and rescue teams immediately responded to the scene, evacuating all passengers from both trains to ensure their safety.
Hospitals in Ceske Budejovice confirmed treating five people with serious injuries. Emergency services stated that the remaining passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated on site or transported to nearby medical facilities.
Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka said initial investigations suggest that one of the trains may have passed a signal set to stop, which could have contributed to the collision. The exact cause is still under investigation.
The accident has disrupted rail traffic between Ceske Budejovice and Plzen. Authorities have announced that train services in this region will remain suspended until at least the afternoon as crews work to clear the tracks and restore operations.
Local officials and emergency responders continue to coordinate efforts to assist passengers and investigate the cause of the crash. Travelers in the affected region have been advised to check updates before planning any journeys.
