Trae Young delivered in the final seconds, sinking two go-ahead free throws with 21 seconds left to guide the Atlanta Hawks to a 111-107 victory over the Orlando Magic. Young scored 25 points and added six assists, rallying the Hawks from a deficit as large as 14 points.
Alongside Young, Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 19 points, while Onyeka Okongwu added 17 points. Mouhamed Gueye chipped in 13 points and Jalen Johnson added 12 points during the fourth-quarter comeback. Despite shooting just 27.6% from 3-point range, the Hawks executed a strong fourth-quarter push to secure the win.
The Magic started strongly, with Franz Wagner leading with 27 points, and Tristan da Silva and Desmond Bane contributing 15 points each. Jalen Suggs and Paolo Banchero scored 11 points apiece, while Wendell Carter Jr. added 10. Orlando controlled the first half, taking a 51-37 lead after Bane’s transition three-pointer in the second quarter.
Trailing by 10 at halftime, Atlanta trimmed the deficit with a 7-0 run early in the third quarter, highlighted by Gueye’s three-pointer and Young’s layup, bringing the score to 82-78. The Magic countered with four points, maintaining an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Orlando extended their lead to 12 early in the fourth quarter with Wagner’s layup. Atlanta responded with a 12-0 run, including rookie Asa Newell’s three-pointer and dunk, tying the score at 93 and forcing a Magic timeout. The Hawks continued their momentum, going on a 15-0 run, with Young’s three-pointer giving them their first lead since the second quarter.
Okongwu’s 5-0 personal run pushed the Hawks’ lead to 103-98 with 3:20 left. Orlando tied the game at 105 with free throws and a dunk from Banchero. Young’s floater with 46 seconds remaining, followed by Suggs’ layup, set the stage for his clutch free throws to seal the victory at 111-107.
Atlanta’s victory showcased resilience and teamwork, overcoming a 14-point deficit through strategic runs and key plays by Young, Okongwu, and Alexander-Walker. Orlando fought valiantly but could not stop the Hawks’ late-game surge. This win highlights the Hawks’ ability to perform under pressure and demonstrates Young’s leadership in critical moments.
