The Arab League has strongly condemned the burning of the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque in the West Bank by a group of Israeli settlers on Monday, describing the act as a deliberate attack on a place of worship.
In an official statement, the League said the incident is a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights principles,” especially the right to freedom of religion and the protection of holy sites. It stressed that targeting religious places is unacceptable and goes against international norms.
The Arab League warned that attacks on holy sites represent a serious and dangerous escalation. According to the statement, such actions harm peace efforts and increase tensions in the region, leading to further violence and instability.
The organization also held the international community and the United Nations morally and legally responsible for ensuring the protection of religious sites. It called for immediate and practical steps to stop repeated attacks, safeguard places of worship, and bring those responsible to justice.
The League reaffirmed its position that protecting religious and cultural sites is essential for maintaining peace, stability, and respect for human rights in the region.
