At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where most people wear fancy western gowns, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a powerful choice. She wore a beautiful Indian saree and proudly showed her sindoor — the red powder many married Indian women wear in the parting of their hair. This bold and proud moment really stood out on the red carpet.
Let’s take a moment to admire Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She walked the red carpet at Cannes 2025 in a saree with visible sindoor in her maang (the parting of her hair). Not many people could wear this look with such confidence, beauty, and grace — but Aishwarya did it perfectly. That one red line of sindoor was more than just tradition — it was a powerful message. While many at Cannes were wearing big dresses with long trails, Aishwarya brought Indian pride, heritage, and elegance to the event — all with a simple stroke of red on her forehead.
What makes Aishwarya truly special is that she doesn’t try to dress for others or follow trends. She wears what she believes in and shows her real self. She wasn’t trying to impress anyone — she was simply being herself, and that’s what made her look even more amazing.

Now, let’s talk about her stunning outfit. Aishwarya wore a handwoven ivory Banarasi saree by famous designer Manish Malhotra. The saree was made using the traditional Kadwa technique in Varanasi, a city known for its handlooms. Along with the saree, she wore a sheer white tissue dupatta, also handwoven. But the most special part? The saree was decorated with real gold and silver zardozi embroidery — a kind of traditional Indian needlework that makes clothes look royal and rich.
Allia Al Rufai dressed her, and she accessorized her ensemble with exquisite jewels. She wore enormous ruby rings and more than 500 carats of Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds set in 18k gold. Her entire appearance exuded nobility.
For those who are unaware, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan walked the Cannes red carpet together for the first time in 2002 when their film Devdas was screened there. She wore a golden saree made by Neeta Lulla even back then. Her confidence and sense of flair have been evident since her debut. She keeps saying the same thing: "This is who I am. Accept it or reject it.
Aishwarya didn’t just walk the red carpet — she made it her own. She brought tradition, pride, and elegance, all while looking like a queen. Truly, there’s nothing more to add — she was perfect.
