The eighth edition of the Air Traffic Control Forum, supported by Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans), is bringing together global air navigation service providers and industry experts. The event will focus on discussing the challenges and latest advancements in air traffic control.
The forum is happening alongside the Airport Show, which will hold its 24th edition from May 6 to May 8 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This event is under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who is the President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
This year’s exhibition will highlight key technologies such as communication, navigation, and surveillance systems, which play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient air travel. These advancements help airports and airlines maintain high levels of service and safety.

According to the Airports Council International (ACI), the number of aircraft movements worldwide is expected to rise from 106.7 million in 2024 to 178.1 million by 2042. By that time, international passenger traffic is projected to reach 8.7 billion, while domestic passenger numbers are expected to hit 10.6 billion.
At the forum, industry experts will discuss ways to modernize air traffic management and introduce new innovations, particularly in the Middle East. The aviation market in this region is expected to grow to $33.7 billion by 2029. Additionally, investments in airport infrastructure are projected to reach $151 billion, while investments in aircraft are estimated to be around $2.4 billion.
Ibrahim Al Ahli, Acting CEO of dans, which manages air navigation for four major airports in the UAE, including DXB, stated, "Leading air navigation service providers (ANSPs) are focused on optimizing airspace use by adopting new technologies and air traffic management capabilities. Since the 1980s, we have worked tirelessly to ensure Dubai remains a top global aviation hub with unmatched connectivity."
The previous edition of the Airport Show featured over 120 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, including dedicated country pavilions. It also attracted over 120 hosted buyers from 35 countries and facilitated more than 3,500 business meetings.
May Ismail, Event Manager at RX, the global company organizing the Airport Show, said, "Air Traffic Control (ATC) is experiencing rapid changes as new technologies emerge. The goal is to improve the efficiency and safety of air traffic management. Airports today are evolving into advanced hubs with cutting-edge innovations. We must explore both the latest solutions available now and those coming in the future. The Airport Show is a key platform for this transformation."
The ATC market, however, faces some challenges. High costs for deploying advanced systems, complex technology integration, strict regulations, and cybersecurity threats related to flight data protection are some of the key concerns. However, innovations like satellite-based navigation, NextGen ATC systems, and AI-powered air traffic management are expected to enhance efficiency and capacity in managing airspace.
Looking ahead, the Middle East region is set to receive around 1,058 new aircraft by 2030. Passenger traffic is also expected to grow by more than nine percent by 2027, indicating strong demand and continued expansion in the aviation sector.
