A horrifying SUV accident in Agra claimed five lives and left two others critically injured on Friday evening, shocking residents of the city and raising concerns about road safety. The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm in the Nagla Budhi area when a speeding SUV, reportedly moving at a dangerous speed, rammed into a group of pedestrians standing near the roadside.
According to police reports, the SUV struck seven people before colliding with a central divider and somersaulting twice. The sheer force of the impact left the vehicle completely mangled and killed several victims instantly. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and traumatic, with bystanders rushing to help those trapped under the vehicle and calling for emergency assistance.
The SUV driver, identified as Anshu Gupta, 34, a resident of Dayalbagh locality in Agra, was immediately surrounded by locals after the crash and handed over to police authorities. The driver is currently in police custody as authorities investigate the cause of the accident and whether negligence or over-speeding contributed to the tragedy.
The deceased include four men and one woman, all of whom were pronounced dead on the spot or shortly after being transported to the hospital. Two other victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. The victims’ families have been notified, and police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Eyewitnesses gave chilling accounts of the accident. Pintu, brother of one of the victims, Babli, said, “A Thar-like SUV came at high speed and ran over everyone. Several people, including my sister, died instantly. It was a horrifying sight that none of us will ever forget.”
Authorities have seized the SUV and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops and homes to reconstruct the moments leading up to the crash. Police have deployed a heavy presence in the area to maintain calm and ensure that the investigation proceeds smoothly.
The incident has sparked renewed discussions about road safety in Agra, particularly concerning speeding vehicles and pedestrian safety. Residents have called for stricter traffic enforcement and awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Senior police officials confirmed that the driver of the SUV, Anshu Gupta, will face legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. They also assured the public that a detailed probe is underway to determine whether negligence, reckless driving, or other factors were responsible for the fatal accident.
This devastating SUV accident in Agra is a grim reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the need for greater awareness and preventive measures on city roads. Families of the victims are left mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones, while the city grapples with the aftermath of one of its deadliest road accidents in recent years.
